In this session, participants will learn how myON enhanced digital books can be used to differentiate instruction in Math and Science. myON personalized digital books are available to all PreK - 12 schools in Austin ISD. Teachers and students can log in to the resource using BLEND or going directly to the myON website. With more than 7,800 digital books indexed by topic, discipline and TEKS, teachers and students can connect digital books and literacy into math and science content. Learn how to create projects linked to Science and Math TEKS with embedded assessments and PBL extensions. Participants will be able to access the resource from their laptop or mobile device and walk away with the tools and resources to create their own projects to support their units of instruction. Learn five strategies to transform practice with multiple-choice questions into a rich learning experience to meet different student needs and encourage students to think more deeply. We will illustrate each strategy using released STAAR test items, because students benefit from instruction and practice in the format of the STAAR test.

Teachers will be shown how to use vocabulary games and concepts to help all students have a better understanding of basic Science vocabulary. I will share many ideas that I have used throughout my years of being in the classroom and as a Science Coach. This session can be adapted to other grade levels besides elementary. No technology is required, however I will share on line resources that I have found to be valuable.
Several vocabulary strategies will be shared, modeled, and discussed that improve student understanding of Algebra 1, Biology and other STEM based courses by focusing on vocabulary. Strategies range from individual work to group work; and interactive kinesthetics to technology. These strategies have been especially effective with special populations such as ELL and SPED.
