Use manipulatives to show students why procedures work for multiplying and dividing integers and fractions. Demonstrate why fractions get smaller when multiplied. Show why “invert and multiply” works. Remove the mystery from standard multiplication and division procedures by helping students visualize why procedures work for integers.
