Frustrated when students know the content but still miss the question? Maybe the question structure/wording/presentation is not familiar to them? Let's focus on a variety of strategies to help students experience 5th grade science content in multiple ways to be better equipped to decode unfamiliar questions. Come work collaboratively using manipulatives to experience the thinking involved when strategies such as cause and effect, comparing and contrasting, reading graphs, tables, and charts, generalizing from examples and non-examples, sequencing processes, making inferences from diagrams, creating analogies, etc. are used. Through modeling and working with the manipulative materials you will have ideas and resources for implementing these strategies all year.
