Naming problems helps students read word problems actively by giving them a concrete task: to identify (1) what is given and (2) what is asked for. Naming can help students see a problem’s larger structure, and how to move forward in solving it. Using STAAR test questions, we will model this problem-solving strategy and show multiple ways you can apply it in your classroom.
