In this session, participants will develop strategies to increase student confidence and effort in problem solving. These strategies can be incorporated into any school wide guide. Students will be able to build critical thinking skills and develop the ability to communicate their mathematical thinking. Participants will practice the strategy of identifying three types of words problems - label problems, vocabulary problems, and model problems. Also, participants will be given strategies to help students learn to communicate their mathematical thinking.

The intended audience is classroom teachers and instructional math coaches.
